Welcome back to Dove Loves, Lynn’s definitive guide to the products and pieces she’s loving - her favorites du jour, the holy grail of what she’s coveting, researching, talking about, and obsessing over.

I’ve always been a fan of Tata Harper. I love her philosophy of non-toxic and 100% natural ingredients. There are no fillers. Every single one of her active ingredients (sometimes ranging from 9 to 29) serve a purpose. She produces her beauty products locally on a farm in Vermont, in small batches that are as green as possible. If that weren’t enough, her products are effective and feel so luxurious. I recently heard Tata speak at Space NK Apothecary, where she shared her story, her mission and her favorite ways to use the products. It was skincare 101 for the mind, body and spirit, to the say the least. And of course I wanted it all, but here are a few products I walked away with that I’m loving...

Purifying Cleanser

This cleanser does exactly that - purifies. It removes dead cells and the build-up that comes from living in New York City and leaves your skin feeling moisturized and hydrated. And I LOVE the smell, it’s like a sense of calm.  With a blend of sugars, broccoli extracts and essential oils, it’s the perfect way to start and end the day.

Boosted Contouring Serum

This IS “your daily facelift.” It lifts, tones, firms and sculpts. I use it morning and evening on my face and neck. I feel the difference instantly. When I’m in a rush, I just mix it in with my other serums and it blends super easy. And of course, the smell is heavenly.

Resurfacing Mask

Truly glow in a jar. This mask makes your skin super radiant. It plumps, reduces pores and gives you an “instant glow.” I use it 2-3 times a week for 20 minutes in the morning while I’m doing my morning routine. Like all of her products, the smell is amazing. Think of it as a shot of espresso for your skin. We’re talking instant boost.

Coffee Mate

A Beginner's Guide To Crystals

Written & Photographed by A Wild Dove

Are you intrigued by crystals but feeling intimidated? Like you want to try them but don’t know where to start? We got you. We spoke to Rashia Bell from The Cristalline who breaks down the power of crystals and their benefits in this quick hit guide. Her tips, below.

My favorite crystal is...

“It depends on the day, but one of my must haves at all times is Selenite which is amazing at clearing the energetic body.”

When I'm feeling stressed, I use crystals to...

“Immediately create a shift in my energy. I use different stones for different things. Selenite to clear, Pyrite to protect, Black Tourmaline to ground, Citrine to focus and inspire."

It all depends on what I am trying to achieve in that moment. Crystals are so multifaceted in their ability to change how you feel.”

My favorite moment with crystals is...

“When I am about to go to bed at night. There is an immediate sense of calm that comes over me. I use my crystals to truly leave the day behind, invite new beginnings, access my subconscious energetic layers and create a greater sense of understanding oneself even while I sleep.”

My advice to someone discovering crystals is...

“Don’t be intimidated to try out different stones and explore different ways to work with them. And remember it isn’t about searching for the right crystals based on their meaning or trying to achieve a certain goal. If you seek them out, they will find you.  Just open yourself up, allow the stones to resonate and they may surprise you!”

Welcome back to Dove Loves, Lynn’s definitive guide to the products and pieces she’s loving - her favorites du jour, the holy grail of what she’s coveting, researching, talking about, and obsessing over.

David's premium natural toothpaste and cocofloss

As I try to work the all-natural vibe into my medicine cabinet, I have been loving Cocofloss, a super-cleansing, high performance dental floss. Totally hard to get excited over floss, but this one rocks. It’s so good. And natural. And non-toxic. It’s thick and glides really well. You’ll definitely see a difference after the first try and you’ll be hooked. And the hint of coconut and mint, well, it makes even that much better.

Follow it up with David’s Premium Natural Toothpaste. I love that it’s all natural and made from the highest natural quality ingredients. There are no sulfates, no fluoride AND it really whitens. The list goes on - it’s vegan, cruelty-free, energy-renewable, family-owned. The exact kind of product I want to be using after everyday.

Kahina Giving Beauty Moroccan Rose Water

I adore the Moroccan Rose Water from Kahina Giving Beauty. The smell is heavenly and I love the after glow. I use it first thing in the morning, especially around my eyes, then again later in the day if I need an extra moisture boost.

Unlike other rose sprays, this is 100% distilled from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, so you already know it’s rich in minerals and anti- inflammatory properties. And perfect to refresh throughout those scorching hot summer days!

Hanging On A Rope

Written & Photographed by A Wild Dove

Think jump rope is solely for grade school games during recess? Think again. Amanda Kloots is bringing our favorite childhood activity to adults through her intense workout, The Rope. Amanda founded the class after working as a private trainer and saw how awesome jumping rope can be for cardio, strength training and agility work. She started experimenting on her clients and suddenly realize she had discovered something unique. We can tell you, firsthand, it works! We sat down with Amanda to talk through this amazing workout and its benefits, and how she manages to stay balanced while building The Rope’s future (hint, it involves launching her own jump rope!) Our conversation, below.

C73A7588.jpg

A Wild Dove

The Rope is such a kick ass workout. Can you detail the benefits of jumping rope?

A Wild Dove

Jumping rope is literally one of the best exercises one can do!  It tones your entire body while torching calories and shrinking body fat! In my class I focus on four themes while jumping - warmup, coordination, endurance, and speed.  Warmup works on perfecting your basic jump and getting your heart rate up.  In coordination, I add in fancy footwork to connect your brain to your body, which strengthens your brain and helps with agility.  Endurance is the third interval.  In this sequence I encourage everyone to jump at a certain tempo for a longer period of time to build their endurance. Lastly, we work on speed and stamina by doing sprints. Whether you are a beginner or advanced jumper, you can work on on four themes and you see yourself get better with each class.

A Wild Dove

Your workout seems great for traveling, all you need is the rope! Can you walk us through some exercises we can do when we can't make it to your class?

Amanda Kloots

Absolutely!  If you are traveling, a great way to work in The Rope is to focus on intervals:

  • Begin jumping for two to three minutes and work in some planks to get your core fired up. Grab the rope in both hands and start toning your abs with standing abs leaning left and right, keeping your arms above your head.

  • Start jumping again for another two to three minutes. Grab your rope above your head and work on some standing lunges pulling the rope down toward your body to get an upper body workout as well! After completing lunges on both right and left sides, begin jumping again for another three minutes.

  • Throw your rope down on the floor in one line and hold a plank over your rope. Tap your right leg over to your left and then switch to the other side for three counts of eight. Do the same with your hands.

  • Grab your rope and finish off this mini workout with another few minutes of jumping!

A Wild Dove

What are some tips for keeping good form while jumping rope?

Amanda Kloots

  • Stay low! You don't need to jump higher than the rope thickness.

  • Always keep your shoulders over your hips, your hips over your knees, and your knees over your ankles!

  • Keep your elbows at your waist and your arms in a 90 degree angle.

  • Make sure your abs are engaged, your glutes are tight, and your knees and feet are together

  • BREATHE!

A Wild Dove

The Summer Series at the One and Only Ocean Club in the Bahamas sounds heavenly. Can you give us the inside scoop?

Amanda Kloots

This is the ultimate weekend getaway! I cannot say enough about the resort, it is gorgeous and the staff are fabulous. You get three workouts with me, one each morning! You also get a paddleboard lesson, lunches, dinners, and cocktails. The best part is you can get there in two-and-a-half hours and then it's absolute heaven!

A Wild Dove

Sounds it! You must have a crazy schedule, how do you stay balanced? Any rituals you can share?

Amanda Kloots

I have a hard time staying balanced but I do my best. I always take one day off a week where I let my body completely relax. I get medical massages each week and acupuncture when needed. I also am religious about icing my muscles and rolling out with a foam roller!

A Wild Dove

What are the next steps for The Rope?

Amanda Kloots

The next steps are super exciting. I am in the midst of creating my own jump rope!! Stay tuned!

Lastly, what makes you fly?

Amanda Kloots

I absolutely love teaching! I get so energized walking into a class and seeing everyone excited to work out. The endorphins after teaching a class that lasts for hours, I can't get enough!

The Nue Co Plant Protein and Gut Food

I’m already a huge fan of The Nue Co. Debloat Food & Prebiotic so I knew I’d love the Plant Protein & Gut Food immediately. The prebiotic and probiotic aids digestion and metabolism with it's unique blend of hemp and pea protein making it the perfect addition to my morning smoothie with all my favorite adaptogens. It’s not super high-calorie, unlike so many proteins, but light and totally satisfying. One tablespoon is the equivalent of two eggs for that morning charge, while nine amino acids helps nails, hair, skin and immune system. Best of all worlds.

Title Change

Written by A Wild Dove | Photographed by Eric White

Jamie Graber recently made a change, a big one. After seven years owning the popular West Village cafe Gingersnaps Organic, she chose to focus on wellness and lifestyle coaching and recently launched her new website Organically Jamie. It’s not easy to make a change as an adult, and we wouldn’t be alone in often wondering, “What If?” We spoke with Jamie on how she came to make that leap of faith and what’s lies ahead in her next chapter.

A Wild Dove

So you’ve made a huge transition recently. Many of us are probably experiencing similar desires to make a change but we fear what lies ahead. Can you walk us through your thought process in making the change and offer some guidance for our readers?

Jamie Graber

It was a difficult decision and one that I took a long time to make. As the years rolled along with Gingersnap’s I felt less and less inspired. I sat with that and noticed that I was feeling depressed and each day it was more difficult for me to get up and go. Once I got there, I would see the customers and light up, but often I had to go handle some store emergency. I made lists of the things that lit me up and then lists of what I spent my day doing. I took a look at those lists and saw that they were very different and it was in that moment that I knew I had to make a huge change.

My advice is meditate and journal for a month. Notice what you do daily that makes you happy and what doesn't.
Make lists and compare them. Get a coach to help you navigate making changes.

A Wild Dove

We love how you refer to your work as Cognitive Reframing Sessions. Can you tell us what that means and share what those sessions are like?

Jamie Graber

It is the idea that you have the ability to choose the way you see the world.  We can choose to see life as happening to us or for us. It is your perception that will change the outcome and the journey. It is finding out the thoughts and beliefs that are holding you back and training yourself to see it differently. It is behavioral training that changes the way you perceive the world. It is similar to the Law of Attraction, but goes deeper than that. You have to sit and see what your blocks are and then we do the work to remove them, through pattern changing and Reiki, which is a subtle body energy work that helps facilitate block removals.

A Wild Dove

That makes total sense to us. Especially since we're all trying the be the best versions of ourselves.
For the busy mamas you coach, what is some advice to help them balance, restore and thrive?

Jamie Graber

Start with knowing that there is a reason they tell you to put your mask on first during the safety portion of flights. You can’t be of service to your family without taking care of yourself first, and that is not being selfish. Finding a way to move your body at least 45 minutes a few times a week. There are so many options. The important part is finding something that works for you, something that is fun and therapeutic.  And I would say a daily, nonnegotiable is to sit quiet for a minimum of 10 minutes and do some form of mediation.  This can be mantra based, guided, anything that helps you sit quiet, and breathe.  Long breaths in and out.

A Wild Dove

Food and cleansing was also such a big part of Gingersnaps, how do you think those themes parlay into the work you're doing now?

Jamie Graber

It all goes back to prioritizing yourself and doing things that make you feel good.  Everyone feels better when they are making conscious choices, whether food, thoughts, company. Some sessions are mostly about food, but that is just a small part.  It is the deeper feelings of self worth that most people have to work on.  When you are loving yourself, it is so much easier to make better food choices.

A Wild Dove

It’s amazing to see you truly following your heart. What are some suggestions you can give to others seeking to empower themselves and follow their dreams?

Jamie Graber

Meditate, sit, quiet your mind.  Take the time to really observe what you are doing daily and see if that is bringing you closer to what you really want. I can’t say enough how important I think having a coach can be. The ability to have someone who can be objective about what they see as your blind spots and then holding you accountable is priceless.

A Wild Dove

What makes you fly?

Jamie Graber

Seeing clients, friends and family make changes in their lives based on our discussions. Laughing with my friends and family. Noticing all the blessings and love that surrounds me. Fun projects with my husband, we are currently copper electroforming crystals.

Because We All Need a Catalyst

Written & Photographed by A Wild Dove

Backstory - Medea Juhasz was suffering. She was leading a self-destructive lifestyle hinged on addiction. She had liver damage, digestive problems, an ulcer, recurring sinus infections and a weak immune system. What came to her rescue wasn’t an in-patient therapy program or prescription drugs, but herbalism. She began combining herbs, amino acids and superfoods and slowly her health issues disappeared. Medea was so inspired that she became a Holistic Health Coach with the goal of spreading the gospel of holistic health and wellness. She created Catalyst Gold, a daily supplement and her vehicle to change the way people think about health. To say we are obsessed with it is an understatement.

04-19-Dove-Loves51721.jpg

We shot Medea at Knockout Beauty, one of our favorite beauty shops that also carries Cataylst Gold. We chatted her journey, her favorite adaptogens and how she stays zen in madness of New York...

A Wild Dove -

So we are OBSESSED with Catalyst Gold. We love everything about it. We love the way we feel, the way we look. What are some of its key ingredients and how do they improve our bodies?

04-19-Dove-Loves51744.jpg

Medea Juhasz -

It is very hard to point out the key ingredients, since each of the 16 ingredients are equally important part of my formula. What makes Catalyst Gold unique is the specific ratio of the ingredients and the actual science how these superfoods, herbs and amino acids enhance each other.

"If I had to highlight the key functions of Catalyst Gold,
Eluthero Root (my favorite adaptogen) is responsible for fighting fatigue
along with Acai Berries, Biotin and Magnesium Citrate."
- Medea Juhasz

A Wild Dove -

What are the next steps for Catalyst Gold? More products to come, we hope?

Medea Juhasz -

I just launched Catalyst Gold a little bit over a year ago, so I'm still completely focusing on this product. Our next step is to figure out the logistics with our potential international retail partners. It's interesting, because we are definitely building a serious cult following, but at the same time we are still Indie and underground. I'm definitely planning to add additional ingestible products down the line, starting with the next product probably towards the beginning of 2018.

C73A0543.jpg

A Wild Dove -

It sounds like Catalyst Gold helps balance our bodies, but how do you stay balanced? What's your therapy?

Medea Juhasz -

My ultimate therapy is boxing. My perfect zen day consists enjoying the sun, meditation, training at Overthrow NY, my boxing gym and sharing organic plant based food with positive, loving friends and family.

A Wild Dove -

We love that. Can you share your nighttime ritual ?

Medea Juhaz -

I'm a total night owl. I always do a little work before I go to bed. I like to read a little bit and sip on roasted dandelion tea. A five minute reflection and meditation right before I go to sleep always helps me to wind down.

A Wild Dove -

What are your five "desert island products?" (Of course Catalyst Gold is a must, we're sure.)

Medea Juhasz -

Catalyst Gold, my boxing gloves, a big jar of raw virgin coconut oil, a large container of UMF 15 manuka honey, the current book I'm reading - Diane Arbus, “A portrait of a Photographer.”

A Wild Dove -

Well we can’t wait to try every single one. Lastly, what makes you fly?

Medea Juhasz -

Positive feedback from my customers about Catalyst Gold and seeing it in the Crosby Street window at Bloomingdales, gratitude, NYC summer heat, the beach, boxing, 70's fashion, Iggy Pop, old Woody Allen movies, and the raw vegan cheese plate from Double Zero.

Power Hour

Written & Photographed by A Wild Dove

I’ve never been much of a “makeup person,” but I recently came to a point where I felt like I needed to start using, well, SOMETHING. I kept hearing about Hourglass and how natural-looking it was, so a few months ago, I found myself at the Hourglass counter at Barney’s, where I became obsessed. I worked with Laurette, a super-chic French woman, with that “je ne sais quoi” cool.

Copy of AWD03-0850545.jpg

With an effortlessness that only the French have mastered, she showed me the line’s core products and how easy they are to apply, combine and include in my daily routine. I loved the way she applied it all, but to be honest, I was a bit overwhelmed and not sure I could replicate it at home. I was worried I would look too “done,” and would have to set aside even MORE time in my morning. I feel like I already spend enough time applying all my lotions and potions, so I was a bit nervous. I figured I’d start slowly, first with the Primer and the Veil Foundation. Baby steps! But the next morning, I couldn’t believe how easy it was! And so natural!! Everything blended and layered so easily. Here are the products I took home, fell hard for and now use everyday.

Primer

Did you know around the world, one bottle is sold every minute!  I never used primer, it always seemed like an extra step and I thought it would make my skin feel cakey. But this one is so unbelievably light, it truly feels like silk. And it has SPF too. Foundation, or even just powder, glides on so much better afterwards.

AWD03-2851184.jpg

Veil Foundation

I’ve also never used foundation, I always assumed it would feel too heavy, but this is exactly the opposite. It feels like you’re not wearing anything at all. I don’t wear it everyday, but on the days that I feel like I need it, it’s just the right amount of coverage and it looks so natural.

Copy of AWD03-0850561.jpg

Concealer

This product works so well. It’s so great for covering up dark circles (always needed)! Because it’s so creamy it blends easily and naturally. And you don’t need much.

AWD03-2851220.jpg
Copy of AWD03-0850564.jpg

Brushes

I love the substantial weight of all the brushes. The shapes are perfect for blending, contouring and they give you complete control. I love the Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Brush and the N5 Concealer Brush, but my favorite is the Ambient Lighting Edit Brush. I love that it has both sizes in one. I use the bigger one for all over and the smaller is the perfect size and shape for highlights and right under the brow.

Copy of AWD03-0850608.jpg

Ambient Palette

This compact features three powders in one and is perfect on-the-go or at home. It is literally all you need. I use Radiant Light as all over powder and it sets everything. I love Incandescent Light for highlights - I use it for cheekbones and under my eyebrow for extra pop. The powder is great even when you don’t use foundation, it definitely gives you enough coverage.

AWD03-2851209.jpg

Eyebrow Pencil

If I only had time to do one thing, I would choose to fill in my brows. I’m all about brows and I adore this pencil so much. It gives you Brooke Shields eyebrows. Period. I use Dark Brunette because I like my brows on the darker side.

AWD03-2851226.jpg

This pencil fills in so easily and blends super well. And even if I do too much by accident, it comes off easily without having to start over. Lifesaver.

Wolf + Friends

Written & Photographed by A Wild Dove

For Carissa Tozzi and Gena Mann, working together was meant to be. The pair grew up in the same town on Long Island, crossed paths in the media world and later ended up close by in Connecticut. But the real magic came when Carissa sought advice from Gena for friends who were struggling with their autistic children, as one of Gena’s four kids has autism. Carissa then shared a top secret project she was working on and despite very few hours in the day, Gena signed on immediately. The result? Wolf + Friends, a cool, modern website that offers toys, fashion and gifts for children with developmental delays. We’re talking happy, stylish pieces that would fit inside any Pinterest-worthy bedroom. We spoke to the pair to get the intel on Wolf + Friends and how this amazing website came to be.

C73A7074.jpg

So you’ve been friends and colleagues for a long time and now you’re working together in such a beautiful way. Carissa, what was your "trigger moment” in launching Wolf and Friends?

Carissa- After having my son Wolf, I became obsessed with stylish kids' clothes, decor and toys on Pinterest. I also discovered that so many friends and colleagues were dealing with developmental issues with their children. I knew the only places they were shopping were uninspiring therapy stores. So I spent time researching those shops. I saw that many of the products they sold were on Amazon and that I could find similar items that had the same benefits at cool boutiques around the world. So I decided to curate it all online in a way that was inspiring and informative and helpful.

C73A7511 copy.jpg

Wolf + Friends is definitely filling a need. What was some of the feedback you got immediately from parents and children? Any specific moments that touched you?

Carissa- It is wonderful to hear people feel a loving, uplifting energy when they visit our site. I heard specifically from a mom who designs these awesome, modern balance boards for her autistic child. We sell them now!

C73A7926.jpg

Gena- I think parents are relieved and grateful to have a place to shop for their children’s developmental delays or differences that feels happy and inspirational instead of depressing! I have written a few stories on the blog from personal experiences with my own kids and moms often reach out to tell me it feels good to know they are not alone.

So how do you balance it all, a new website and five kids between you?

Carissa- Can you really call it balance?? We try to do the best we can with the time we have. We are both full time moms as well, which I think is really important for what we do. I am spending so much time with Wolf and meeting his friends and parents. I love that people I just met will come to me for advice and recommendations and many experts and parents want to contribute to the site as well.

Gena- There’s no such thing as balance with a startup. I am answering these questions at 10:00pm on Sunday evening after putting my four kids to bed. I try to work when my two year old is in preschool and then at night after the kids go to bed. My three other kids are going in 100 directions after school between therapies and activities so I am a chauffeur between the hours of 2:45 and 6pm. I worked really hard to have my youngest, so I will rarely give up any time with her. There is no better moment in my day than the way she squeals at preschool pickup.

C73A7600.jpg

We can’t imagine how busy you must be! Your team is amazing, how did you put your group together?

Gena- Many of the talented people that write for us are occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychiatrists and behavior analysts that I have met through my son's program. These people have helped my child, so we ask them to write about things we think can help other people's kids.

What are the next steps for Wolf +Friends?

Carissa- We are starting to collaborate with brands that we have always loved, which is super exciting and we are starting to meet with people who know a lot more about “business” than us, so we can get insight and advice on where we can take the brand from here.

C73A7802.jpg

What's the last book you read with your kids?

C73A7310.jpg

Carissa- Wolf is into scary looking and informative dinosaur books, so that is what we are reading. I ask him to bring home something funny from the library, but he is in a scary phase and all wants is facts and information!

Gena- My big kids read by themselves at night (at least some of them do)! My baby is a big fan of Llama, Llama books and so am I.

What makes you fly?

Carissa- When Wolf tells me he loves me so much! He is such a sweet, loving, affectionate boy! I want to hold on to those moments forever. And I am so lucky to have such a loving and thoughtful husband who tells me everyday how much he loves me and how beautiful I am. I am very grateful for my little family.

Gena- My family 100%. We have a complicated little crew in many ways. We have autism which throws everyone for a loop. We have a 12 year age difference between my oldest and youngest kids and my husband spends a lot of time on a plane traveling for work. But we wouldn't change a thing! When we are all together, we have moments of magic. My husband plays piano and the kids all dance around, we make bonfires in the front yard in the spring and summer. Honestly, when we can get everyone in one room for a meal, we are pretty psyched. Because of our challenges, we appreciate the small miracles.
